Presidential Message: University-based COVID-19 vaccination

As outlined in the attached document, we plan to start university-based vaccination from September 4th, 2021, in line with the government’s policy to end the spread of infection as soon as possible.

The university-based vaccination aims to minimize the risk of infection on campus and create a safe environment so that students and faculty members can concentrate on educational and research activities in addition to contribution to the acceleration of vaccination in Japan. However, please note that the vaccination is not mandatory and will be conducted via reservation system for those who wish to get vaccinated. We would like to emphasize that any forms of discrimination against unvaccinated people will not be allowed.

The university-based vaccination is expected to reduce the number of infected cases, the severity of infected people and secure herd immunity so that students can return to normal university life such as face-to-face/practice classes, laboratory activities, job hunting and extracurricular activities.

On the other hand, it has been reported that a certain percentage of people have side effects after vaccination. Besides, young people are often asymptomatic even if infected, so some students may hesitate to get vaccinated. However, we would like you to keep in mind that university-based vaccination is a sure method not only to protect ourselves from infection and aggravation of new coronavirus, but also to decrease the risk of infection on campus and in the community as a whole.

We would like as many people as possible to get vaccinated so that we can return to normal life. We ask for understanding and cooperation from students and faculty members.
